ReadEase – AI Text Reader

Your privacy is our priority. ReadEase was built with an "on-device first" philosophy. We collect the absolute minimum amount of data required to make the app function.

1. Data We Collect and How We Use It

Camera (OCR)

ReadEase requests access to your camera to scan physical text and extract it into the app. ReadEase does not access your Photo Library.

  • How it's processed: All Optical Character Recognition (OCR) is performed entirely on your device using Apple's native Vision framework.
  • Storage: We do not save, store, or transmit your photos. Once the text is extracted, the image is discarded immediately.

Text Data (AI Processing)

When you use AI-powered features (Simplify, Summarize, Explain, Check Spelling, or Polish), the text you submit is sent to our AI provider (Google Gemini via Firebase).

  • How it's processed: The text is transmitted securely for the sole purpose of generating the requested result (e.g., a simplified version of the text).
  • Storage: We do not permanently store this text on our servers. The AI provider processes the text temporarily to generate the response and does not use your personal data to train public AI models.

Reading and Writing History

ReadEase automatically saves the texts you read and write so you can access them later.

  • How it's processed: This history is stored locally on your device using Apple's SwiftData framework.
  • Storage: We do not sync this data to our servers. If you delete the app, your history is deleted permanently.

2. Analytics

ReadEase uses Firebase Analytics to collect anonymous, aggregated usage metrics about our AI features (e.g., which AI function was called, response latency, and whether the call succeeded). This data is used solely to monitor service health and improve performance. It does not contain any of your personal text, reading history, or identifiable information.

We do not use advertising frameworks. There are no ads, and we do not sell your data to anyone.

3. Your Rights

Because your history is stored locally on your device, you have complete control over it. You can delete individual items or clear your entire history directly within the ReadEase app at any time.

4. Changes to This Policy

If we introduce new features that change how data is handled (such as cloud syncing), we will update this policy and notify you within the app.
